Rigidity and Faith

Authentic faith finds a way through to the light even in the rockiest soil

My posting today is motivated by a new book out by William A. Donohue, President of The Catholic League. Donohue is nationally known for his extreme positions on political and religious issues and the vituperative attacks on those with whom he disagrees. I learned yesterday that I am once again mentioned in Donohue's diatribe. I will not buy his book and read it. I will, instead, share my own faith journey here on my website.

My history with Donohue began in 2004 when I was Sr. Advisor for Religious Outreach at the Democratic National Convention. He took issue with my signing the amicus brief to the Supreme Court requesting that "under God" be taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance. The purpose of the case was to shore up the wall of separation between church and state---to protect your faith from political and governmental interference! Our faith choices are limited by conflating church and state NOT expanded.

In the interest of sharing my faith journey, I will post another chapter of my upcoming book on this site---click on Articles. I chose this photo to accompany the writing because I'm convinced that authentic spiritual growth can occur even in the rockiest soil--- authenticity grows toward the light. Let's begin the conversation about what it means to be a person of faith in our nation today.
